The camp is at 7000 feet on the north slope of the Zuni Mts. about 6 miles from Thoreau.

A hard rain this afternoon made the roads very muddy and slippery but we got up without any real trouble.

Grass and flowers growing and country fresh and green.

[[Mt/Nut]] pine and junipers abundant and yellow pine scattered over cold slope It has been lumbered off over most of this part of the range but young trees are coming along. Narrow leaved cottonwood are beautiful around camp.

Flowers numerous.

Transcription Notes:
Mt pine best guess, for mountain pine Nut pine would be another guess referring to piƱon pine which grows in same plant zone as junipers.
