[[underlined]] Cottonwood Gulch, Ariz. [[/underlined]] July 12, 1940. Left camp 9 AM. with 3 stationwagons & truck, 23 boys and 4 men. Reached Gallop 11 AM & left at 12 Headed for Window Rock and Ft. Defiance. Hot and dry but country and vegetation unusually green. Lunched about 10 miles out of Gallop, then on to Window Rock, the Navaho headquarters, most picturesque and interesting sandstone formations. Tried to see Mr. E. R. Fryer, Superintendent but he was out May want to come out to help trap coyotes after Aug. 14. Camped at Fluted Butte, about 50 miles south of Chin Lee.
