[[underlined]] EXPLANATION OF BEACH DIAGRAM [/underlined]]

1. BEACH ZONES
a. Force Landing beach zones will be
designated by the names of different
   types of automobile bodies.
b. Beach zone limits conform to limits of
   responsibility of Force Commanders.
2. BEACHES
a. Corps and division beaches on the
mainland will be given the names of
   different makes of automobiles.
b. Corps and division beaches in the
KOSHIKO RETTO, and in any other outlying
islands to be captured will be given the
   names of different automobile parts.
3. SIZE AND SUBDIVISION OF BEACHES.
   NOTE - IMPORTANT ---
Beach lengths shown on this diagram
   indicate the approximate length of
   available beaches. Definite lengths and
locations of beaches will be determined
by Corps and Attack Force Commanders.

When approved by ComGen SIXTH Army and
   ComPhibsPac this information will be
   promulgated to all concerned.

   a. Beaches where terrain conditions
permit, will be approximately 4,000 yds.
   in length.
   b. Each named beach will be divided into
four color sections, each section being
   approximately 1,000 yards in length.
   c. Each color section will be divided
   into numbered subsections, each
   subsection being approximately 500 yards
   in length.
   d. Smaller beaches will be divided into
sections by the use of such part of the
above method as is suitable to their
lengths, and the tactical plan for the
   landing.

4. BEACH NAMES, COLORS, AND NUMBER SEQUENCES
   a. KYUSHU beach names start at the
northern beach in Eastern KYUSHU and,
facing the beach, go to the left in
   alphabetical sequence, including those in
   KAGOSHIMA WAN.
Beach names in outlying islands start at
the norther beach on the Eastern side of
the island and, facing the beach, go to
   the left in alphabetical sequence.
   b. Beach section colors will always be
marked in the same sequence, viz. yellow,
blue, red, green, from right to left,
   facing the beach.
   c. Beach subsections will always be
marked in the same numerical order, from
right to left, as shown in example.

TRANSRON beach sections will be marked for
each beach as shown below. Should three
RCT's land abreast, beach lengths are
correspondingly reduced.
