Quick-Thinking PFC Saves Corporal's Life

FUKUOKA, July 12—Cpl. William Barksdale can credit his life to the quick thinking of Pfc Johnnie Johnson, who saved him from drowning last Sunday.

Both Johnson and Barksdale were surfboard riding a few miles out of Fukuoka when Barksdale relaxed his grip and fell from the surf board, disappearing below the choppy waters. Johnson went in after him at once and held Barksdale above the surface of the water for about five minutes until the boat was able to pick them up.

Both men are members of the Headquarters Squadron, 315th Composite Wing, Fukuoka, Kyushu.
