Q My wife and I have a large bet on Marilyn Monroe. My wife insists that before Marilyn wed Joe DiMaggio , she was kept by a big-time Hollywood agent, Leland Hayward. I also say she was kept by a big-time Hollywood agent, only her was Myron Selznick, brother of David Selznick, producer of "Gone with the Wind." Which one of us is right?
-H.J.K., Wilmington, Del.

A Neither of you. Before she wed Joe DiMaggio, Monroe for a time was taken care of by the late Johnny Hyde, an agent with the William Morris Office.

Q During the period 1965-70. I was in Vientiane, Laos, employed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID). The office of supply and management has a division chief, Catherine Reagan, who was thought to be a sister of Ronald Reagan. Is this information true?-Mimi Acacio, Austin, Tex.

A It is not. Reagan has no sisters, only one older brother, "Moon" Reagan, 75, a retired advertising executive who resides in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

Q I thought Elton John, the rock star, was a self-admitted gay. If so, why did he marry that German girl, Renate Blauel, on Valentine's Day? What's happened to his boyfriend, Bob Halley? They lived together for eight years.-June L., St. Louis, Mo.

A Elton John says he's bisexual, not homosexual, and he expects his marriage to recording engineer Renate Blauel to endure. Halley will probably remain in Elton's employ in some capacity.

Q The real name, please, of "Mr. T," who appears on TV in "The A Team." Also, his age and anything else you may care to divulge of this monster.-A.T., Evanston, Ill.

A Mr. T's real name is Lawrence Tureaud. He is 31, was born and reared in the Chicago slums, one of 12 children abandoned by his father. Tureaud became a professional bodyguard and owes his big break in show business to actor-director Sylvester Stallone, who hired him in 1980 to play the brutal heavyweight in "Rocky III." As a star of "The A Team," Tureaud reportedly is earning $1 million a year. Success does not seem to have swollen his head. A religious do-gooder, he contributes generously to his church and addresses youth audiences on the dangers of drugs and the pitfalls of the criminal life. Currently on a hot show-business roll, he is in eager demand by TV and film producers.

Q Whatever happened to Alice Faye, who was married to Phil Harris? Did they have any children?-P. Aspden, Clearwater, Fla.

A Alice Faye (real name: Alice Jeanne Leppert), born in New York City on May 5, 1915, married singer Tony Martin in 1936 and divorced him in 1940. The following year, she married orchestra leader Phil Harris, by whom she had two daughters-Alice, born in 1942, and Phyllis, born in 1944. Alice Faye and Phil Harris live in Rancho Mirage, Calif., and occasionally interrupt their semi-retirement for show-biz appearances.

Q Is it a fact that entertainer Michael Jackson is the richest self-made millionaire under the age of 30 in the world?-Holly Justice, San Diego, Calif.

A It is not a fact, but Jackson, 25, whose wealth is estimated at $50 million, is surely one of the world's wealthiest self-made multimillionaires.

Q Is the affair between Hollywood actress Debra Winger and Gov. Robert Kerrey of Nebraska serious or is it a publicity stunt for Debra's movie, "Terms of Endearment"? The papers say she is Jewish. What is his religion?-A.L., Flagstaff, Ariz.

A The Winger-Kerrey romance may not end in matrimony, but it is serious and surely no publicity stunt. Kerrey, 40, whose term as governor expires in January 1987, is a Congregationalist.

Q Does Secretary of State George Shults have a friendly, neutral or adversary relationship with the press?-P. Lincoln, Detroit, Mich.

A Some weeks ago, in a meeting with editors of the Gannett newspaper chain, Shultz defended the Reagan Administration's decision to bar reporters from covering the first two days of the U.S. invasion of Grenada last October. During World War II, Shultz pointed out, "reporters were involved all along. And, on the whole, they were on our side." Now, he added, "it seems as though reporters are always against us...They're always seeking to report something that's going to screw things up.
