We remained at El Paso October 30th for repairs to motor, also for advertising purposes. Mr. Rodgers left El Paso at 9:50 A.M., special train left at 10:00 A.M., Pacific Time, October 31st. Arrived Demming, New Mexico, 11:30 A.M. and 11:50 A.M., where Rodgers landed for prize money; 88 miles. Mr. Rodgers and special train left Deming at 12:59 P.M., arrived Lordsburg 2:00 P.M. and 2:30 P.M., 60 miles, where Rodgers landed for prize money, also gasolene and oil. Left Lordsburg 3:15 P.M., arrived Wilcox 4:35 P.M. and 4:55 P.M. October 31st, 74 miles, where tied up for the night.

Left Wilcox 11:05 A.M. November 1st, arrived Tuscon 12:52 and 1:30 P.M., 90 miles, where Rodgers landed for gasolene, oil, and prize money. Rodgers left Tuscon 2:51 P.M., special train left 3:30 P.M., one hour behind Mr. Rodgers. Train was delayed at Tuscon account no engine, Southern Pacific officials claiming that account of heavy repairs they were unable to give the engine to us sooner. However, this was a place where we were unable to find any Southern Pacific officials who had authority and we were also given very little attention by the dispatchers and yard force. Mr. Rodgers arrived at Maricopa at 4:30 P.M., special train arrived at 5:25 P.M., 87 miles, where we tied up for the night.

Special train and Mr. Rodgers left Maricopa 9:44 A.M. Nov. 2nd, and made a detour to Phoenix, 70 miles round trip, arriving there at 10:19 and 11:00 A.M. Left Phoenix 12:10 P.M. Mr. Rodgers arrived at Stovall 2:07 P.M. and our special train at 4:15 P.M. November 2nd. Our train was delayed on return trip to Maricopa where we again took the main line of the Southern Pacific, account of the Southern Pacific having taken our engine from Maricopa the night before and did not return it to Maricopa the next day until about 2:30 P.M., although they had instructions from their representative on our train to have the engine back at Maricopa not later than 10:00 A.M. the following day.

The result was that Mr. Rodgers came down at Stovall, 90 miles, where there is nothing but a small side-track in the desert, and remained their alone for more than two hours until the arrival of our train, and it was then too late for him to make further mileage as he had been waiting for our train to get gasolene and oil. We remained at Stovall overnight and left there at 7:30 A.M. November 3rd, arriving at Imperial Junction, Cal., 9:45 A.M. and 12:35 P.M., 140 miles. We were again delayed on the Southern Pacific account of slow orders, bad track, and having a freight engine instead ofa passenger engine to pull our train; in fact, we had more trouble with the Southern Pacific from Tuscon to California than we had on any other part of our route.

Mr. Rodgers also had motor trouble and was compelled to land at Imperial Junction; repairs were made and we left 10:43 A.M. and 11:12 A.M. November 4th, and arrived at Baning, Cal., at 12:55 and 3:00 P.M. Mr. Rodgers again experienced motor trouble and we had to remain at Baning overnight. Repairs were made and we left Baning 12:03 P.M. November 5th. Arrived Pomona 1:02 P.M. and 2:45 P.M. Left Pamona 3:25 P.M., arrived Pasadena, Cal., 4:04 P.M. and 5:30 P.M. November 5th, 182 miles.
