I said I had, but I wasn't sure it would stand a new seat. "Try it and see", he said "and if the Erie turns it down let me know," I tried; the Erie paid, so I never wrote Mr Armour.

After my return to Elmira I heard frequently from members of the party. Cal was held at Hammond two days by bad weather conditions and finally reached Chicago on October 8th.

He left the same day, following the line of the Chicago and Alton RR to Kansas City, where another two day delay occured. Weather conditions were getting more uncertain and on the remainder of the flight he was frequently kept on the ground by stormy weather and high winds. Increasing mechanical troubles were also handicapping him badly.

[[strikethrough]] On October 17th he lost his way[[/strikethrough]] Leaving Kansas City he followed the MK & I. RR., On October 17th he lost his way near Whitesboro Texas and was finally flagged down at the little town of Bonita. Here he was able to get into the air again with the aid of two girls who turned his propellors for him.
