[[strikethrough]] I was the first to [[reach?]] and congratulate Cal [[/strikethrough]]

There was evidently a failure of motion power for the train on November 2nd, with the result that the train and plane spent that night in the desert near Stoval Ariz. The gas supply on the Pullivan gave out, so the chef cooked dinner that night and breakfast the following morning in the shack of a section man.

West of Imperial Junction, at an Elevation of about four thousand feet, a cylinder head flew out forcing a landing for twenty four hours repairs.

Pasadena was finally reached on November 5th, fifty days from the day he left Shepsherd Bay and twenty days too late to qualify for the fifty thousand dollar first prize.

In order to make it an actual coast to coast flight, Cal planned to fly from Pasadena to Long Beach on November 12th. In this attempt, he crashed from an altitude of one hundred twenty five feet ^[[almost]] completely demolishing his plane, and receiving very serious personal injuries.
