I., on Friday, in the amateur air derby to Cleveland. Mrs. Davis, who left the fashionable Aviation Country Club field with eleven other entrants, used a plane provided by the Standard Flying Service of Teterboro Airport, N. J. Fear She Met Accident. Her plane, which bore the Department of Commerce registration number NC303Y, was not checked in at Cleveland with the other derby racers, nor have the owners of the ship received any word from her since Friday. The ship was due back at Hasbrouck Heights, N. J., yesterday forenoon. When silence still shrouded her absence last night, officials of the company expressed concern that she had met with an accident. The amateurs' derby, a feature of the National air races, which ended in Cleveland yesterday, made the cross-country flight in four comparatively easy hops, with an overnight stop at Syracuse and refueling landings at Buffalo and Akron. Race Ended Saturday. None of the fliers registered at the fields on these halts, which made it impossible to check up. The planes were strung out over most of the distance, so that she could have been forced down without attracting attention of her follow fliers. Maj. Paul Burwell, manager of the Aviation Country Club, stated none of the entrants was required to report back after reaching Cleveland. He agreed that Mrs. Davis could have been forced out of the race by mechanical trouble, but unless this occured in some isolated spot, he said, it is likely she would have wired her backers.
