An all-feminine squadron took part in the annual test for the first time yesterday, operating out of Zahn's Airport at Amityville, L. I.

Commanded by Maj. Manila Talley, a former racing pilot, the women's unit, called Empire Squadron, has forty-eight members, who acted as pilots, observers and ground crew yesterday.

Two women in the Empire Squadron received spot commissions at Zahn's Airport yesterday from Col. Joseph F. Crowley of Yonkers, commandant of the New York State C. A. P.

Ruth Nichols, veteran flyer and holder of world flight records for speed, altitude and distance, was commissioned a C. A. P. captain. Miss Adelaide Bornmann, a former Coast Guard ensign who learned to fly under the G. I. Bill of Rights, was commissioned a seconds lieutenant.
