MANILA DAVIS, BRAXTON GIRL, SELLING PLANES

[[image - photograph of Manila Davis wearing aviator headgear]]

Manila Davis, former Flatwoods, Braxton county girl, is enlisted in the world's newest industry, aviation, as a saleswoman for Curtis-Wright, Inc., at the Boston, Mass. airport. She is the first girl sales representative in the history of the Boston airport. Boston businessmen are warned not to be surprised if a charming young woman glides into their offices and urges them to become air-minded. Miss Davis, who attended Sutton high school and was a student at West Virginia university for three years, went to Boston as a student in the New England Conservatory, where she was graduated in 1923. She has many friends in this section of the state.

"In public life," the young aviatrix says, "I am still Miss Davis, but in private I am the wife of Randolph Riedell." Mr. Riedell is a Boston sportsman. Miss Davis learned to fly with Boston Skyways and has quite a bit of flying time to her credit. She is the daughter of Claude C. Davis, of Flatwoods.

GIRL ON SALES
Bob Foote, director of sales and publicity for the Boston station of Curtiss-Wright, annexed the first girl sales representative of Curtiss-Wright history at the airport, when [[underlined]] Miss Manila Davis [/underlined]] was taken on the payroll.

Miss Davis learned to fly with Skyways and has quite a bit of flying time to her credit. She wanted to get into the business and use her flying knowledge to some good advantage, so the deal was cooked up with Foote and Curtiss.

So now, if a charming young lady comes into your office and sells you the idea of going places in aviation, don't be surprised, for Miss Davis almost sold us a course as her first act upon being taken on by C.W.

Manila Davis Now with Curtiss

Manila Davis of Brookline, a member of the Women's Wing and Prop Club, who soloed under the tutorship of Charlie Emerson, Skyways instructor, has joined the staff of Curtiss-Wright Flying Service. Her work will be official hostess for Curtiss, in charge of feminine activities and first saleslady. She hopes to start a women's department at the field for Curtiss. Miss Davis has had twenty hours time in the air besides her instruction time, and hopes to get her limited commercial license this summer. She assisted with the Curtiss booth at the Auto Show giving instruction on the wind tunnel model.
