NEWS OF DAYTON SOCIETY AND CLUBS
THE DAYTON JOURNAL, WEDNESDAY, MAY 9, 1934.

THE Women's Aeronautical association of Dayton, which is an important chapter of the national organization, was delightfully entertained Tuesday at a buffer luncheon arranged at Runnymede Playhouse.

Mrs. George Shaw Green, of this city, who is national president of the Women's Aeronautical society, was hostess at this occasion, and she was assisted by her mother, Mrs. H. E. Talbot, who is numbered among Dayton's most gracious society matrons.

Spring flowers from the Runnymede gardens adorned the buffet tables and at the close of the luncheon, an informal program was presented with Miss Martha Smith, local president, presiding.

Mrs. [[underlined]] B. B. Bailey [[/underlined]] of this city, who as "Manila Davis" is numbered among the outstanding women flyers of this country who was the speaker of the day, relating some of her personal experiences in flying.

Mrs. Talley, who flies her own silver-stunt biplane, recently came to this city from Ft. Schuyler, N. Y., with her husband, Lieutenant Talley, who is now stationed at Wright field.  She now holds the international racing licinse;  the amateur sporting license, and National Aeronautical association sporting license.  She is a member of the Sportsmen Pilots association and flew the first derby of this organization, which took place in 1931 from the Long Island Aviation Country club to the Cleveland National Air races.

Following the program, bridge was enjoyed.  As this was annual guest day, a number of visitors were welcomed.

The next meeting of the organization will take place on Tuesday, May 22.

PLANE TURNS OVER IN FORCED LANDING
Mrs. Talley Escapes Injury In Accident at Vandalia.

Mrs. [[underlined]] Manila Davis Talley, [[/underlined]] of 400 Fountain avenue, escaped injury Thursday afternoon when her airplane turned over after a forced landing at Vandalia.

Mrs. Talley had to come down when her motor quit operating.  She will participate in the women's air meet next weekend at Dayton airport, Vandalia.

Arrives Here From South to Reside at Dayton Home Until July.

AFTER enjoying the winter season at "The Pillars," her home in Aiken, South Carolina, Mrs. George Houk Mead returned Wednesday morning to "The Little Woods," her Dayton Residence.

Mr. Mead returned to Dayton earlier in the month and at present is in the east for a brief time.

Mr. and Mrs. Mead will remain here until July and plan to leave then for a summer sojourn on Cape Cod.

Women Pilots Will Be Feted
Daytonians May Attend Banquet in Connection With National Air Meet.

The banquet honoring the nation's outstanding women pilots on Friday evening at the Dayton country club will be open to the public, it was announced Wednesday by Mrs. George Shaw Greene, of Dayton, president of the Women's National Aeronautical association.

All women flyers who come to Dayton for the Women's National Air meet on Saturday and Sunday at Dayton Municipal air port, Vandalia, will be guests of the W. N. A. A., which will have its annual meeting on Friday at the Biltmore hotel.

Added to the list of members of the local aeronautical society entertaining guests are:  Mrs. [[underlined]] B. B. Talley, [[/underlined]] Mrs. Oliver P. Echols, Mrs. Robert C. Austin, Miss Ernestine Breisch and Miss Ione Coppedge.

The aviatrices will be introduced to the assembly while prominent army air corps officers from Wright and Patterson fields will speak briefly.

Reservation for the banquet should be made at the air meet headquarters 204 Custer building, ADams 5036.

A group of Chicagoans have chartered two airplanes to fly to Dayton for the three-day meeting.  The group includes Marguerite Green, president of the Chicago unit of the W. N. A. A.;  Mary Simm, Dorothy Goldsmith, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Patterson and Violet L. Crosby, who will fly her own ship.  Another group of Chicago aviation enthusiasts are motoring to Dayton.

Entry was received Wednesday from Jeannette Lemke, Bay City, Mich., who will participate in several events.

One of the most interesting social functions arranged during the Air Meet in Dayton this week end is a buffet supper to be given at the Officers' club at Patterson field on Saturday evening with officers and their wives of both Patterson and Wright fields as hosts ficers and Wright fields as hosts and hostesses.

This affair is planned to honor the visiting flyers and delegates coming here for the meet.  Other guests will be members of committees for the aeronautical meeting and Air Races.
