CONVENTION OF GROUP STARTS
Safety in Flying.

"Primarily, we are interested in the maximum safety in flying for the public.

"I visualize for this organization a type of endeavor which can wield a very powerful public opinion but we feel that this public opinion can be with prejudice toward more and help and encouragement toward all."

Mrs. Marguerite J. Heron, of Dayton, national secretary for last year and next year, also presented her annual report Friday morning.

"There are many interesting questions," she said, "and much interesting information which appears in secretarial mail, opening up new lines of organization endeavor.

"It has taken a year to really known the units and to obtain a true picture of the breadth and worth-whileness of our work. We have, as women in aeronautics, as broad a field to cover as any other federated woman's organization in the United States.

Dr. Weimer Speaks

Following luncheon, Dr. L. C. Weimer, postmaster, addressed the group on the United States air mail.

The afternoon was given over to a second business session, in which discussion was held on the women's national air meet, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday under the joint auspices of the W. N. A. A. and the Ninety-Nines.

It was brought out in the afternoon session that two new units, Washington, D. C., and Raleigh, N. C., are ready to join the national organization.

Mrs. Robert Goolrick, Mrs. Robert Austin and Mrs. Louise Barlow Heikes are delegates of the Dayton unit attending the meeting.

A banquet in honor of the pilots participating in the air meet will be held on Friday evening at the Dayton Country club.

Program Planned.

Mrs. Greene will open the evening's program by presenting the pilots, air meet officials and W.N.A.A. visitors.

Lieut. B. B. Talley, of Wright field, whose wife [[underlined]] Manila Davis [[/underlined]] Talley, fostered the idea for the air meet, will talk on the subject, "The Feminine Pilot." Mrs. Talley was painfully injured last Friday in a plane crash and because of this will be unable to participate in the meet.

Mrs. Fred H. Coleman, wife of the commandant of Patterson field, will talk upon the subject, "The Masculine Pilot."

Capt. A. F. Hegenberger, of Wright field, will talk upon the subject, "Pilots and Airplanes."

L. Luzern Custer, official observer for the National Aeronautical association, will talk upon "The Balloonist Steps In."

Saturday's air meet program will get under way at 2 p. m. with a 20-mile free-for-all race, followed by a spot landing contest, aerobatic contest and parachute jumping contest.

Sunday's program, starting at 2 p. m. will include a barrier landing contest, bomb dropping contest, 50-mile free-for-all race (the feature event) and parachute jumping contest.

The latest type of military airplanes will be displayed at the municipal airport by the army air corps from Wright field.
