[[underlined]] Canadian zone [[/underlined]] is even more poorly marked, but seems to run from 6000 NE to 9000, and from 8000 S.W. to 10000. In many places it seems to come down on steep slopes to 5600 feet or nearly to the river.

In places it is characterized by Picea pungens low down and P. englemani high up, by Abies concolor, part way by Pseudotsugas and by a few scattered Pinus flexilis and murryana. Acer glabrum grows in gulches and a small form of Acer grandidentatus is abundant at 6500 to 7000 feet, but may be transition. The shrubs are Pachystina, Sorbus, Lipargyrea canadensis, [[Rubus watkanus?]], [[Lanierra?]] involucrata, Ribes sanguineum & others.

The Pine squirrel, Utamias [[??]], Juncos and Siskins made the zone about as irregularly as do the plants, that is occurring in a few places where existance is possible
