Pulau Bukum, five miles west of the harbor entrance, and the Royal Dutch Oil Company maintains another on the Dutch island of Sambau, fifteen miles outh west of the harbor entrance.

12.  The wharves in the city of Singapore are large and well equipped, are about seven thousand feet long, then a gap, then another four thousand feet.

13.  There is a dry dock called the King's Dock, eight hundred and ninety seven feet long, one hundred feet wide, with thirty-four feet of water on the sill.  In addition, there are several smaller docks.  Beside the King's Dock is the Naval Pumping Station where the oil fuel is pumped from the tankers to the fuel depots.

14.  The harbor is defended by some harbor defense artillery which, I was informed by the Commanding Officer, were 9.2 Armstrong rifles of fifty calibres.  There are four companies of garrison artillery and one battalion of British infantry on duty in Singapore.  While it may appear that Singapore is not of much value as a Naval Base at this time, such a supposition is erroneous.  Its great use would be as a fuel and ammunition base.
