The latest submarine now being built for Japan has a length of 330 feet and a beam of 34 feet. Displacement 2,000 tons, cruising radius 16,000 miles and carries a crew of one hundred officers and men. One submarine of this type is capable of carrying on its deck eighteen crates similar in cubic capacity to those used for shipping our present pursuit planes. This would permit each submarine to land six pursuit planes with fifty percent spares for replacement. In the case of islands composed of loose sand or ground pitted with burrows, landing mats would be used.
