Clerk of the Grove Ranch cleared a large tract of land which now has become a municipal field and is used frequently by the one commercial aviator in the Territory. On Hawaii, assistance was rendered in building a field near the active volcano and the chamber of commerce of Hilo is now actively supporting a project for a large municipal field.

The airways system is still in an infant stage. It is true the fields are all marked with a landing tee and gas and oil have been shipped and stored somewhere in the vicinity. On the other hand, many necessary facilities are lacking. Directional arrows, wind vanes, shelter, spare wheels and other easily damaged parts and permanent personnel are lacking. To offset the lack of these facilities, however, is the almost ideal climate and atmospheric conditions of the group. Flights over the airways can be made every day of the year. All of the fields have a good hard base and the danger of nosing over or miring in hot weather is nil.
