APPENDIX V

DIVERSION OF FUNDS AND HANGARS.

In 1920 funds were sent to the Hawaiian Department for the construction of Air Service barracks and quarters, amounting to a total of $525,000.00. It was left to the discretion of the Department Commander as to where these funds should be expended. The intention being, of course, to use the funds where they were most needed by the Air Service activities, namely: at Luke Field and Wheeler Field. Instead of that, they were diverted to Fort Ruger and Fort Kamehameha - both Coast Artillery posts, - and out of the total amount of $525,000.00, only $38,823.58 was really made available for the Air Service. The barracks and quarters are now being occupied by Coast Artillery officers.
