The dominant characteristic of German aeronautic construction is metal. Wood they consider as a thing of the past. All the airplanes are approaching the monoplane internally braced type. This gives the greatest aerodynamic efficiency for big ships particularly, and the bigger the ship is the more easily it is constructed. There is nothing hidden or mysterious about it, but it is the result of long years of careful development.

Of course, nothing has been done along the lines of armament since the War, but there were many creations that were very interesting just as the War stopped. sSome of the great arms companies, particularly the Erhart Works at Dusseldorf, when they saw the armistice coming and knew what the consequences would be, took everything that they could get their hands on, put it in canal boats, and floated it down to Holland. Among the very interesting things carried away in this way was a 20 mm. machine gun for use from airplanes. This is very important, and we can get it under certain conditions. All the details regarding this are known by our Military Attache in Holland and our Chief Ordinance officer of the American Forces in Germany.
