  Higgin Hill is soon to be consolidated with Farnborough.
  The third element of the Royal Airoraft Establishment is at Grain Island, at the mouth of the Thames.  At this place they experiment with armament and with seaplanes.  They also have experimented with the landing and taking off of airplanes from airships.  They have the usual high explosive bombs, the largest being 3200 pounds.  I do not consider any high explosive bombs in the world the equal of ours.  They have some very good smoke bombs, however, which can be used on the water or exploded in the air so as to make aerial smoke barrages as well as ground and water barrages.  They are experimenting also with phosphorous and gas, but not much of the latter is being done there now or made public.  They have a .50 caliber Vickers gun with an initial velocity of 2700 feet installed in a pursuit plane and working with a Constantinesco interruptor gear.  It works very well.  However, the bullets are smaller than ours and not so good.
  Their deck landing planes are the amphibious type -- that is, with either flying boat or pontoons for flotation and wheels for landing.  They are supposed to land either on the deck of a carrier or in the water.  The methods they use for landing on
