suitable valuable information was obtained and damage done the enemy by bombing.
The 91st and 24th Salmson Squadrons moved from the Toul sector to the new aerodrome at Vavincourt on September 22nd, the 9th (Breguet) having survived two days before. The 9th was assigned to night reconnaissance and was the only unit of this character in the American Air Service. 
The Group operated under difficulties the field was far from the lines and lack of liaison with the some of operations made it difficult to make proper distribution of effectives.
[[underline]] Balloons. [[/underline]] Thirteen American balloons and two French operated during the offensive. Of particular note is the success that attended liaison. The American balloon companies at all times kept pace with the general advance, one company covering 32 kilometers in a day, over shell torn ground. Nevertheless, telephone liaison was established at each stage of the advance and information sent in to corps and divisions. The two French balloons did not participate in the advance and did little or no work owing to sickness int he personnel.
