marching to the attack or elements in retreat.

           Constant photographic and visual reconnaissance for the whole sector was to be provided by the Army Observation Group, while photographs of destruction, observation of artillery fire, surveillance and command reconnaissance and liaison with the infantry were to be fulfilled by the Artillery and Army Corps Aviation. 

            In order to strike the first blow with telling effect, a concentration of our Combat Aviation was to be thrown across the lines at daylight. As will be noted, the location of our units was such that the salient could be attached from the south and from the west. With the amount of day bombing and pursuit available it was possible to have the attacks follow each other rapidly from either side and thus keep the entire sector boiling. 

            Detailed instructions to carry out the general plan outline above were issued on September 11th, as follows:
