In order to give the balloon the most favorable shape consistent with the least resistance of the atmosphere I propose to give it the form of a double parabaloid.
 
The lateral as well as vertical propulsion is effected by means of screws, constructed of a light & hollow wooden frame work & covered with silk. The platform with the Machinery is suspended from a girdle or frame (constructed of hollow wood plates as shown in drawing) incompassing [[encompassing]] the balloon whereby one direct strain is imposed on the latter. In order to sustain the sides of the balloon and equalize the strain thereon it is surrounded by a network of silken or hempen cord. The modus operandi is as follows
