the gase for its marking direcly[[directly]] from the large balloon or from a separated smaller one. The difference caused by the consumption of a small portion of the gase it contains, is compensated for by the proportionate filling with common atmospheric air (effected by bellows driven by the Engine) of a very small balloon placed in the interior of the larger one. The slight difference caused by the different weight of the contents of the smaller balloon at starting & during the curse [[course]] is again compensated for by discharging of a proportionate amount of ballast such as a fine jet of water which can be regulated at pleasure. Lateral motion is communicated to the balloon by two vertical propellors[[propellers]] on the sides of it, whilst the vertical motion is regulated by a small balloon below the platform.

The balloon is steered by the rudders r.r. drawing No. 1 & also by the two vertical propellors in driving one of them forward & the other backward.
