Senator Kennedy was a long time friend of Dr. Martin Luther King. They had worked together often; King constantly being harassed in his freedom crusades, Kennedy bringing federal pressure to bear in his behalf. Following Dr. King's senseless murder, Kennedy offered Mrs. King his assistance and at her request he chartered the plane that brought Dr. King's body back to Atlanta. Senator Kennedy intimately shared Mrs. King's grief. A member of his family had also been slain.

Many people today look upon Robert Kennedy as the last chance for "Negro communication with the white establishment." He has made the Negro's cause his cause. Robert Kennedy has come to stand for future racial harmony, and this is a hope that none of us can afford to ignore.
