Dr. Benjamin Elijah Mays, President Emeritus of Morehouse College 1967, served as President of Morehouse College from July 1, 1940 to July 1967.

Under his guidance Morehouse College became one of the outstanding Negro Colleges in the United States, having been elected to full membership in the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

A prolific writer and lecturer, Dr. Mays has written several books; has written 72 articles on Negro relations, and has contributed 16 chapters in various other books. He is a member of 24 national and world organizations.

A former President of the United Negro College Fund Dr. Mys has taught at Howard University, South Carolina State College and Morehouse College. An outstanding protege of Dr. Mays was Nobel Peace Price winner the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
