I remember, we all had to [[strikethrough]] get [[/strikethrough]] ^[[be]] bathed and dressed before we went in to see the Christmas tree. Aunt Mamie would play piano for us to march in. We then distributed the presents and ^[[then we]] had our breakfast. At dinner, we always had some friends to come [[strikethrough]] in and eat with us [[/strikethrough]] ^[[to Christmas dinner]]. ^[[Papa]] Poppa would shuck fresh oysters and make his oyster cocktails for the first course. We had hors d'oeuvres of celery in the pretty celery dishes and then we would have the regular meal of turkey and so forth and so on. [[strikethrough]] We [[/strikethrough]] ^[[Mother]] would always make the [[strikethrough]] big [[/strikethrough]] cakes. Momma would make [[strikethrough]] these [[/strikethrough]] big fruitcakes. She had a great big iron fruit cake pan with a funnel in the middle. She made these fruitcakes about Thanksgiving and [[strikethrough]] put the [[/strikethrough]] ^[[pour]] brandy [[strikethrough]] and everything [[/strikethrough]] on them ^[[to ripen.]]. For Christmas, [[strikethrough]] they [[/strikethrough]] ^[[we]] would have the chocolate [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] caramel ^[[and pound]] cakes. [[strikethrough]] Poppa [[/strikethrough]] ^[[Papa]] loved mince meat, so [[strikethrough]] she [[/strikethrough]] ^[[Mother]] would always make a mince meat pie^[[s]].

They didn't have much ice cream ^[[in Winter]] in that day and time, except for the summer. Most of the ice cream was in bricks. We made our ice cream in the summer time. Momma had [[strikethrough]] an [[/strikethrough]] ^[[6 quart]] ice cream freezer. She would make the custard and ^[[put]] mash^[[ed]] [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] peaches ^[[or bananas]] [[strikethrough]]to put in [[/strikethrough]] it ^[[the custard]], or just make plain ^[[frozen]] custard that was very good, ^[[or]] chocolate ^[[ice cream]] [[strikethrough]] or something like that [[/strikethrough]]. All of our birthdays were in the summer. My sister's Fannie's birthday was June 9, mine ^[[(Maurice)]], was July 13, [[strikethrough]] Catherine[[/strikethrough]]'s ^[[Kathryn's]] was August 31, Alma's was September 22, [[strikethrough]] poppa[[/strikethrough]] ^[[Papa]]'s was September 23 -- he always said that Alma was his birthday present, and momma's was the 7th of November. For each of us mother would make our favorite ice cream and cake, and then we ruled the day.
