Purpose of NAMD and the Conference
NAMD was organized in 1953 as a national, professional organization of specialists in sales, advertising, marketing and public relations directed primarily toward the development of the Negro market. More specifically, NAMD seeks, through personal contact and through the adoption of official policy positions, to raise the level of ethics and performance among Negro-market practitioners.

NAMD also seeks to create and maintain a favorable climate of public opinion on behalf of its members in the public relations field. Special attention is given to positive communications with the press, community organizations, educational institutions, industry and government.

NAMD seeks to promote the exchange of information, experience and know-how by keeping its members current on new sales techniques and vital information concerning the Negro marketplace, by sending out monthly newsletters, by participating in meetings, sales clinics and conventions, and by using the national headquarters as a clearing house for new positions in sales and public relations.

NAMD is not a labor organization or pressure group, its functions are wholly educational and professional.

NAMD is a non-profit organization

The Annual Conference is held for the purpose of taking an inventory of recent salient developments in Negro-market programs around the country while keeping alert to new opportunities and positions in government and private industry. Relevant developments in the broad race-relations field are analyzed and determinations made as to their inherent effects on present and future marketing techniques.

Of equal importance is the effort made to improve the understanding and communication between producers of goods and services, Negro consumers and the Negro-market practitioners who serve the interests of both.
