GAIL FISHER

Gail Fisher was born August 18 in Potters Crossing, N.J., the youngest of five children. She was graduated from Metuchen, N.J., High School where she concentrated on public speaking and starred in the senior play.

Determined on a career in show business, Miss Fisher entered and won a succession of beauty contests, including "Miss Transit," "Miss Black New Jersey" and "Miss Press Photography." She was the first Negro girl to enter the New Jersey State Fair beauty contest, and she won a trophy from Gov. Robert Meyner for "Encouragement of Youth."

Miss Fisher was awarded a scholarship to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, where she studied for two years. Later she continued her acting studies in New York under Joshua Shelley and Lee Strasberg. She is a member of the Actors Studio and has performed extensively with the Lincoln Center Repertory Group in New York.
