play, the mixed doubles involving most of the players competing in the men's and women's doubles events will have to be played next year according to the tournament chairman Lincoln Turner.

Still waiting to play their quarter-final matches were Ann Funn and Bob Shaw who would meet Debbie Shaw and Hilton Davis Jr. The other quarter-final match paired Pat and Lewis Downing against Barbara Loatman and Tony Santio, while waiting for the winners of the quarter-finals were last year's champions Jan Cable and Joey Mitchell 3rd, and in the other bracket, Jane and Lincoln Turner.

Mike Mitchell, who was beaten last year in the finals of the junior tennis tournament held prior to the senior tournament at the Oak Bluffs courts, took the trophy for the singles championship, but lost in the doubles with his partner, Sonny Funn, to the combine of Paul Sullivan and Cliff Anderson in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Mitchell defeated Funn in the singles 6-1, 6-1 after edging out Les Hayling in a tough semifinal match with Les Hayling 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Capturing the trophy for the girls' singles was Kim Lew, defeating Karen Wilkinson 7-5, 6-2 in the finals after disposing of Linda Marshall 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 in the semifinal match and Andrea Freeman in the quarter-finals.

In the girls' doubles Deitre Davis and Linda Marshall paired to beat Kim Lew and Linda Marshall 6-3, 6-0 for the championship.

Debbie Shaw, chairman of the junior tournament, said that interest in tennis had increased so that instead of just two classes in the junior tournament, this year seven events were held. In the second age group for the 13 and 14 year olds, Brian Freeman won his first trophy by beating Sonny Funn on the finals 6-2, 6-2.

In the 12 and under class top seeded Jim Davis  of Linden, N. J., had a tough time winning his match with Tim Maloney 7-5, 6-2, after knocking over Jay Cowan in the semifinals 6-1, 6-0.

In the doubles for the youngsters, Jim Davis collected his second trophy as he teamed with Monte Wilkinson beating Jay Cowan and Tim Maloney 6-1, 6-4.
