SOME OF THE PROGRAMS...Designed to fill the peoples' need for:

EDUCATION

For the very young

■ A network of Day Care Centers to be opened in a number of states on the basis of 2 model schools currently operating in Philadelphia. They are to be community-run and organized, offering supportive health, legal and employment services to insure maximum parent participation. Technical assistance is also supplied by League personnel to new or existing centers in 41 cities.

■ The Education Policy Information Center provides black and poor communities across the nation with advance information on national trends and issues affecting public education in urban ghettos. EPIC's main thrust is to keep black people ahead of the game in education policy-making, to increase the black public's understanding of developments in education and to help minority group parents to initiate change rather than passively accepting complex national educational processes.

For high school dropouts

■ The Street Academy Program currently has 1,453 students in 11 cities working to complete their secondary education in informal surroundings and using alternate learning techniques. Over 400 Street Academy Grads are now in college. In one graduate's opinion, "Street Academies are a Godsend. Where would I be without this school?"
