PROCLAMATION

TO ALL WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME: GREETINGS. BY AUTHORITY CONFERRED BY THE EXECUTIVE BOARD OF THE NATIONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL, INCORPORATE, IT IS HEREB PROCLAIMED THAT:

WHEREAS: The National Pan-Hellenic Council organized in May, 1930 at Howard University, Washington, D.C. The charter members were: Kappa Alpha Psi and Omega Psi Phi Fraternities; Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta Sororities. In 1931 Alpha Phi Alpha and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternities joined and in 1937, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority completed the list which comprises the affiliate organizations of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and

WHEREAS: The stated purpose of the organization in 1930 was "Unanimity of Though and Actions far as possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities," and

WHEREAS: Considerations are to be continuously given to solve problems of mutual interests to member organizations, and

WHEREAS: The National Pan-Hellenic Council recognizes the mutual need for coordination of activities of these inter-collegiate Greek fraternities and sororities, and

WHEREAS: Compliance with standards and policies agreed upon by the member organizations, should be adhered to, and

WHEREAS: Each organization, though autonomous, must support and require compliance by its chapters with policies Pan-Hellenic may adopt, in the interests of effective actions; objectives are being realized through the members cooperative efforts which should be formally emphasized and appropriately celebrated.

NOW, THEREFORE I. ALICE M. SWAIN, president of the The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated, do hereby proclaim the first week in May and Founders Week with the first Sunday in May celebrated as Founders Day.

PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL FOUNDERS DAY

IN OBSERVANCE THEREOF, I sincerely urge each council to abundantly observe and celebrate ni [[in]] an existence of fraternal spirit, for the good of all Greeks, the mandates and purposes of this representative group and forge a path that augments the relevancy of its paramount and lasting existance.

IN WITNESS THEREOF I hereunto set my hand and cause this seal of The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated to be affixed.
