82nd ANNUAL IMPERIAL COUNCIL SESSION

PHS ORGANIZATION 82 YEARS OLD

Delegates, officers and members from some 190 Prince Hall Shrine temples and 160 courts in the Imperial domain, will be represented at the 82nd annual imperial council session and the 64th session of the Imperial Court, Daughters of Isis, when the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine of North and South America and its jurisdiction, incorporated, meets in New Orleans, La., August 17 through 23, 1975.

In a joint announcement from the offices of Imperial Potentate Marshall S. Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Imperial Commandress Thelma M. Gordon of Huntington, West Virginia, pre-registrations and hotels confirmation figures both indicate that more than 60,000 delegates, along with their families and visitors, will attend.

The headquarters hotel for both the shriners and the daughters will be the Roosevelt-Fairmount in downtown New Orleans. A Prince Hall Shrine spokesman said the delegates, their families and visiting guests will spend more than $5,000,000 during their week-long stay.

The delegates to the annual session will come to New Orleans from shrine clubs, courts, and temples in cities and towns in states all over the USA, from Washington, D.C., and from localities such as Alaska, Bahama Islands, Belgium, Canada, England, Far East, Germany, Greece, Hawaii, Holland, Italy, Nassau and Spain. A spokesman said that the New Orleans meeting could turn out to be the largest attended session of Prince Hall shrinedom ever in its 82 year history.

Imperial Potentate Johnson from Sahara Temple 2 in Pittsburgh and Imperial Commandress Gordon, from Abdul Court 87 in Huntington, will preside during the week. They will be assisted by a top notch group of elected and appointed officials in the Council and court, to include Dr. L. L. Melton deputy imperial potentate from Beaumont, Texas; Anita G. Adams, deputy imperial commandress from Tuskegee Institute, Ala.;Eugene Dickerson, imperial chief rabban from Washington, D.C.; Anne M. Bolden, imperial ILT commandress from Bloomfield, Conn.; past imperial potentate Booker T. Alexander, imperial recorder from Detroit, Mich. and Grace T. Brooks, imperial recordress from Fort Wayne, Ind.

Official hosts and hostesses for the annual convention in New Orleans will be the elected officers and appointed members of Piatta Temple 15 and Piatta Court 17. These shrine officials are already predicting that the 1975 convention in hetir city will be one of the largest, if not the largest, ever to be held within recent years.

One of the reasons advanced for this optimistic outlook is that New Orleans is a great convention city, it is filled with historical places and sights, and the type of entertainment offered is always pleasing to delegates and visitors.

The Imperial Council of Shriners has formulated an extensive program of activities to keep everyone busy and happy. Two highlights of the August 17 program will be the annual divine worship and memorial service on Sunday at 11 a.m., in honor of deceased nobles and daughters and the public day program later in the day at 8 p.m. Imperial Potentate Johnson will present certificate of merit awards to several nationally known black leaders in America, citing them for outstanding performance of duty and service to their community, city, state and nation.

Other programs and activities during the week will include the annual music festival: bowling and golfing tournaments; daughters of Isis scholarship luncheon; health and medical research foundation meeting; imperial court parade of stars and fashion show; and the imperial potentate's ball.

Also to be seen will be marching and mounted patrols
