JUNE 13-17, 1976

Links Incorporated, a national organization was founded in Philadelphia in 1946. It has grown from this original chapter to one hundred forty-five chapters located in thirty-four states and the District of Columbia. Its membership consists of approximately five thousand black women.

National Links has a three prong program: Service to Youth, Freedom and Fine Arts, and National and International Trends and Services.

It is interesting to note that three of the four black women who have served as Representatives of the United States to the United Nations have been members of Links. National Links was the catalyst in the movement of organizations becoming life members of NAACP. It is obligatory for every chapter to hold a life membership.

During the last four years the Links contributed $100,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, $100,000 to the National Urban League, $100,000 to the Negro College Fund and $68,000 for Sickle Cell Anemia Research. Currently, the Links have pledged to continue support to the Negro College Fund - the goal - another $100,000.

The Brooklyn Chapter of Links was organized in 1952. Since that time its members have served the Brooklyn Community effectively and well.
