Dr. John L.S. Holloman, Jr.

Dr. John L.S. Holloman, Jr. came to Harlem Hospital as an intern in 1943 following his graduation from the University of Michigan. A year later he joined the Army Air Corps and served under Benjamin O. Davis in all black bomber squadron. When the war was over Holloman returned to New York and did post graduate medical training in internal medicine at Cornel University and Bellevue Hospital. He then set up a private practice in Harlem Hospital and proceeded to build a solid reputation as a highly respected urban doctor.

He is a former president of the National Medical Association and was an assistant Vice President of the Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York. Dr. Holloman became head of the city’s municipal hospital system in 1974 and is a member of the governing council of the American Public Health Association, a trustee of the State University of New York and has been active on the boards of seventeen national and local health philanthropic organizations.
