January 29, 1976

Dear Tuskegee Airman:

The 1976 National Convention -- Reunion -- of the Tuskegee Airmen will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the Marriot Motor Hotel on August 19, 1976, through August 22, 1976.

As your host of the 1976 Convention, the Greater Philadelphia Chapter invites everyone who participated in the "Tuskegee Experiement", in any location, to rendezvous in Philadelphia on August 19 through August 22, 1976.

Despite the death on December 21, 1975 of our Chapter President Milton "Chubby" Richardson, or perhaps because of it, we, in coordination with the Convention Committee of the National body, are committed to producing the best and largest convention ever held by the Tuskegee Airmen. That's where Chubby was leading.

The theme of the 1976 convention is the recognition of the whole team's contribution to the success of the "experiment", including all ranks, occupational specialities -- military and civilian, and all men and women who served in any capacity. We urge all members to inform non-affiliated Airmen of the Convention; better yet, send us their names and addresses and we will inform them.

It is no accident that the Convention is in Philadelphia at the same time that the Nation's birthplace celebrates the Nation's Bicentennial. We planned it that way. In addition to the Convention activities, there will be a large number of Bicentennial activities to enjoy. Bring the family and come early and stay late.

The Convention site, the Marriot Motor Hotel, is a vacation area itself with numbers of pools, restaurants, cocktail lounges, and other facilities for visiting families. In addition to the business of the Convention, we are programming numbers of activities which will make this convention memorable. Some of the highlights are: a Thursday evening river cruise and buffet which we assure you will actually take place; entertainment, both nostalgic and contemporary; special activities for women and young people; historic tours; recreational activities and our traditional Friday buffet and Saturday banquet. You will receive details in later mailings.

Black out this time, August 19 to 22, 1976, on your summer calendar for the Tuskegee Airmens' Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.

Renew acquaintances with men and women who shared the experience with you, even some of whom you didn't like, they have mellowed too. We look forward to enjoying a great convention with you.

THE BLACK SQUADRON

The 332nd fought with valor and bravery through the Italian campaign, the invasion of France and the final bombing and destruction of Hitler's Germany. They were one of the the most highly decorated squadrons in the Air Corps and their story is unique in the annals of American military history.

The 332nd Fighter Group was made up exclusively of young, black Americans. In fact, the Civil Rights movement began, to a great degree, with the men of the 332nd. Maybe that's why their story has never been told.
