The United Supreme Council, 33° Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Prince Hall Affiliation for the Southern Jurisdiction, will hold its Annual Session at the Shoreham Americana Hotel, Washington, D.C. beginning 30 October through 2 November 1976

Upon the demise of Sovereign Grand Commander Dr. Willard W. Allen of Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Jno G. Lewis, Jr., of Baton Rouge, Louisiana then the Lieutenant Grand Commander assumed leadership until the next Session.

Upon being elected to the office of Sovereign Grand Commander Dr. Lewis began at once to exhibit his stellar leadership and under his guidance this Supreme Council has become one of the outstanding fraternal organizations in the country.

Dr. Lewis recommended that Illustrious James A. Mingo, who had been acting in the absence of Dr. Charles H. Wesley, then President of Wilberforce University to become the Secretary General and Illustrious Mingo was elected to that office in 1963 and presently serves in that position.

The Supreme Council for the Southern Jurisdiction embraces the states below the Mason-Dixon line including California, Hawaii, New Mexico, the Armed Forces in Europe and the Republic of Liberia with its Holy See located in Washington, D.C.

One of the dreams of Dr. Lewis, through the Supreme Council's Charitable Foundation is to establish in some of the Colleges and Universities in the country, Chairs in Law and History in honor of some of our outstanding members, and to have the name of Prince Hall Masonry widely known and recognized for the it has played in the history and in the establishment of this country so that generations yet unborn may know and have access to facts regarding the accomplishments of men of color, in the past and the present.
