NATIONAL URBAN AFFAIRS COUNCIL

NUAC - What it is:

It is an organization of professional men and women vested with the responsibility and stewardship for counterbalancing the social concerns of the corporation, the community, and government. The goal is to develop and maintain the expertise to intelligently translate the needs and desires of these institutions into mutually real and meaningful benefits.

This involvement covers such mutual interests as communications, community and minority relations, equal employment opportunity, personnel policies and practices; contributions and funding; and humanistic services.

Founded just six years ago, NUAC has six affiliates and 200 members in the urban centers of Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, New York, St. Louis, Mo., and Washington, D.C. Individual members are in cities nationwide.

NUAC - What it does:

Each affiliate is a group of professionals committed to the advancement of the individual members' functional areas by requiring them to keep pace with the challenge of today's changing society. NUAC is governed by a board of directors comprised of elected representatives from the various local chapters. NUAC provides its members a unique opportunity to come in contact with outstanding leaders in the various professions.

NUAC publishes a national and local directory of members and, as the occasion arises, materials of special interest to members.

NUAC maintains a job bank of qualified candidates in its areas of interest as well as job opportunities in the major urban centers of the nation.

NUAC sponsors regional seminars to keep its members informed of current developments in areas of mutual interest to the members' organization and community.

NUAC's annual conference-meeting is designed to bring together representatives of its members' various professions and related fields for exchange of ideas and to strengthen bonds of professionalism.

NUAC - Why belong:

Because if you are a "Pro" or want to be a "Pro," you want to be where the action is. Membership in NUAC presents many opportunities for keeping abreast of new developments in EEO/government, urban and public affairs.

Most NUAC members are sponsored by their employers, either wholly or in part. Such sponsorship has several pluses for both the member and his/her organization. Relationships established by employees may provide pipelines to other companies and governmental agencies through mutual interests and solutions of common problems; expedite the obtaining of information and resources; improve the effectiveness of various programs; and allow comparison of strategies.

Then, too, there is something about belonging to an organization of "Pro's" which just can't be duplicated. It's a refreshing change of pace to meet and share experiences with those career interests akin to your own.

You will indeed find NUAC a fertile ground for generating new ideas, making new friends, building your own future, promoting your organization, and contributing to the growth and stability of your community - an all-around rewarding association.
