The New York Howard University Alumni Club celebrated the 110th anniversary of the founding of the university by honoring three alumni trustees who live in the New York area, at a luncheon at the New York State Harlem Office building.

U.S. Customs Court Judge Scovel Richardson, former judge, Samuel R. Pierce, Jr. and Morgan Guaranty Trust Company Executive Vice-President Carl W. Klemme were presented citations for meritorious service by the alumni club president, Mrs. Helene Southern Slater.

Manhattan Borough President Percy E. Sutton, the guest speaker, told the audience that, as the next mayor of the City of New York, he would bring expertise in administration and management - "after all, I have had eleven years experience" - and that he would concentrate on crime reduction and the return of jobs and business to the city. He received a standing ovation and many of those in the audience pledged to work in the voter registration effort and for him.

Dr. W. Kenneth Williams delivered a moving tribute to Dr. Mordecai W. Johnson, Howard's first Black president, who served for 34 years and who died on Sept. 10, 1976.

A surprise gift was presented to William Harmon Brown, for services to the alumni club.
