Paragraph of text middle right of the page:
In the early part of 1937, at the Upper Manhattan Branch of the YMCA in New York City, a group of about twenty-five college trained women, who were engaged in various professions and businesses were called together by the late Florence K. Williamson Norman to discuss plans for the organization of a new Greek letter sorority. These women, sincere in the right of their convictions, began to lay the groundwork necessary to set in motion machinery for a National Sorority of Negro business and professional women to be known as Lambda Kappa Mu. None of this would have been achieved without the capable legal assistance rendered by a very young lawyer who was at the beginning of her career - Jane M. Bolin.
On January 19, 1937, Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority was founded. At that point Ms. Bolin set into motion the machinery which would result in a state charter.
By February, 1938 the group had adopted its ritual, pledge, flower, colors, and password as well as its motto and pin.
The Certificate of Incorporation was issued by the Secretary of State in accordance with the laws of the State of New York to March 16, 1938. During the interim between January 19th, 1937 and March 16th, 1938 Jane Bolin had been very active in achieving this goal. In addition to this, on March 30, 1938 the Certificate of Incorporation of the National Sorority of Lambda Kappa Mu was placed in the hands of the governing body.
A Constitution Committee was then appointed with the founder, Florence K. Norman, serving as chairperson. After the prescribed period of preliminaries pertinent to thisi next major step, the Contitution was adopted April 24, 1938.
