KOPELLE HERITAGE
The National Youth Program, referred to as the Kopelles (bold print) was organized in 1963 by National Grand Basileus, Miss Catherine Cowell, who believed that focus on leadership-building for tomorrow begins with a definitive program of constructive citizenship, guidance and cultural enrichment for young women today. Youth clubs are springing up from Coast to Coast, Miss Cowell because of her forththought, ingenuity, and general concern for YOUTH was honored at the 1977 Conclave Sorority Luncheon.

1977: FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF A DREAM FULFILLED
Forty years ago Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority's modest beginnings boasted three chapters: Alpha, Beta and Gamma. This was the dream of Florence K. Norman. These three chapters laid the foundation, the heritage, and the ROOTS of this young organization. The ROOTS have spread to include, today, the Pacific West Coast. As LKM grows, its ideals of SISTERHOOD, ACHIEVEMENT, SCHOLARSHIP and SERVICE spreads, also, as she involves herself in the Community and with the YOUTH, especially.

On June 22, 1940, the First Conclave of Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority was held at the YWCA, then located at 179 W. 137 Street, New York City (Harlem). This was a one day conference with business meetings held in the morning and afternoon; a banquet was held at the evening session. The main address was delivered by the National Grand Basileus, Philitus W. Joyce. Since 1956 Conclaves were extended to three-day meetings.
