...an emerging power bloc

coalition of 100 black women

One dictionary definition of the word bloc is "a coalition of factions or parties for a particular purpose." The Coalition of 100 Black Women is, by that description, a bloc. We search out the solid common ground that links groups of Black Women...we strive to express clearly our shared goals, our common dreams...and we then seek to wield the awesome power inherent in such a union.

As Blacks and as women, the time for polite discussion of issues is long past. We do not shrink from a well-planned display of non-violent power, an intelligent exercise of political muscle, or even, when the occasion demands it, a deliberate raising of our united Black, female voice.

Our voice may be less strident than some, less muted than others. We seek to support, and be supported by every group of Black Women that has a serious purpose connected with some aspect of Black life.
