KOBRAND DEBUTS TEN PREMIUM ITALIANS

Kobrand Corporation, long-time industry leader with top-quality wines of France and Germany, has just launched three new premium Italian lines of wine.

The ten new imports join Kobrand's already very successful Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva.

"We searched until we found wines that are the finest of their types, the finest produced in Italy," says Gerard Yvernault, Vice President Wine Division. "We wanted wines from the other most important regions of Italy that could stand beside our greatly respected Nozzole Chianti."

Kobrand's new Italian line includes five Granduca Wines from Piedmont produced by Cantine Duca d'Asti, four wines of Verona from Azienda Agricola Santa Sofia, and a Verdicchio Classico from Casa Vinicola Gioacchino Garofoli.

The Granduca wines, all D.O.C., include both a Barolo and a Barolo Riserva Speciale, the latter aged more than five years in wood and indisputably one of the greatest red wines of Italy and the world. Granduca produces Barolo from late-harvested grapes and induces malolactic fermentation, resulting in lower and more agreeable natural acidity.

The three other Granduca wines are Barbaresco, Nebbiolo d'Alba, and Barbera d'Asti. Of all Italy's Barberas, the Barbera d'Asti is considered to be the finest. It is a relatively inexpensive wine with good potential on the American market.

Santa Sofia has been producing outstanding wines of Verona since 1811, Kobrand reports. Its Soave has a superior intensity and breed not found in wines from outside the "Classico" region and lacking "Superiore" qualification. The same can be said of the equally top-rated Bardolino and Valpolicella. Special selection of Valpolicella grapes, partial drying of the clusters, and long fermentation results in Santa Sofia Amarone, a well-aged powerful dry red wine for special occasions.

The superior dry white wine of Verdicchio has been famous since ancient times. Garofoli Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico is a fragrant wine of exceptional breed. It is produced with the aid of the most modern equipment but still aged briefly in oak casks for special depth of flavor. It makes an excellent wine for fish and light meats such as veal, as well as a superior aperitif.

"The superb quality of our new Italian wines has already been recognized by critics," reports Charles S. Mueller, Kobrand's Executive Vice President, "as well as by the trade. We are delighted to see them entering the wine lists of such prestige restaurants as New York's La Folie."
