The Black Cosmetic industry began when the Queen of Sheba came out of the desert to meet King Solomon. Then Cleopatra, the siren of the Nile, charmed the great Caesar with her oils, frankincense eyeshadow, lipsticks and facial make-ups.

Modern twentieth century beauty business began when Madam Walker, another dusky wench came out of the middle west with her straightening combs to coiffure the hair of black beauty. Madam Walker weaved her magic with hot oils and hot pressing combs. The thirst for cosmetic beauty among ladies of all distinction has blossomed into a billion dollar industry.

This section on beauty is dedicated by "Delegate Magazine" to the Black Lady. (May she ever remain beautiful). Text was prepared by Herbert Hollon, Chesebrough-Ponds; Bill Madison, Revlon; Marcia Boles, Avon; Lorraine Ewing, Clairol; Jane Clancy, Rowland Co.
