Bob Thomas, National Market Development Manager of Hiram Walker Distillers Company and his staff, Charlie Parker, Bill Stevens, Warren Jackson and James A. Smith were hosts of the reception tendered National Negro Publishers meeting and convention in Cleveland, June, 1978.

Among the guests other than publishers were: Martha "Bunny" Mitchell of the White House, Judge James R. Williams, Paul Brown, Leroy Jeffries, Larry Holmes, John Lewis, Bill Atkins, Herb Brown, Gen. J. N. Garba, Commissioner of External Affairs, Republic of Nigeria, Don King, Gov. James Rhodes and Congressman Louis Stokes.
