WHAT PROGRAMS ARE OPERATED BY THE LEAGUE?

While the emphasis and number of programs vary from affiliate to affiliate, for the most part they reflect a uniformity of interests. An overview of the wide span of programs in which the League is involved may be obtained from a look at some of those operated through the national headquarters, primarily in conjunction with affiliates.

EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING
The Office of Program Development and Training (OPDT) provides technical assistance to all affiliates and to other program operators to assist them in the delivery of employment and training services to their constituents under the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) in program design and development, proposal preparation, staff training, program implementation, administration, fiscal control and assessment. OPDT also prepares and presents testimony for congressional hearings and other government agencies.
* The Northeast Corridor Minority Employment Program (NECMEP) is an employment and training support program designed to facilitate and insure the employment of a representative number of minority in all construction occupations in the Northeast Corridor Improvement Project (a federal railroad rehabilitation effort between Boston and Washington, D.C.).
* The Labor Education Advanced Program (LEAP) recruits, counsels, trains and places minority group men and women in apprenticeable occupations and other highly skilled jobs. LEAP includes a Women's Program which places women in non-traditional occupations including the apprenticeable trades.

BUSINESS AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT
* The career Development Project is designed to ease the transition from school to work for disadvantaged minority junior and senior high school students. The project emphasizes teaching job seeking skills, career orientation and provides job development, placement and follow-up services.
* The Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP) arranges for top level black executives to teach courses in such fields as marketing, computer sciences, and management at black colleges.
