THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE...
(Continued from page

fumbling which has prevailed for over a decade through innovations and gimmicks designed to cripple our children so badly that they are doomed to a lifetime of failure and misery.

We must become vocal advocates for children, especially black and poor children who have no voice and few friends to speak for them.

We must insist that schools become disciplined orderly training grounds which provide the necessary attitudes, skills and techniques for which they were established.

We must establish a rapport of credibility with you to make them aware of alternative life styles and help them develop the will to overcome institutional neglect and deprivation. We must mobilize community agencies to provide the young adults and especially the teen-agers with training on how to become responsible parents, since it is necessary that parents provide the motivation, discipline, love and chastisement children need to lead productive rewarding lives. Some of the concerns to be addressed include
(1) Parents and their responsibility for and to their children; (2) Techniques of rearing children in a complex society; (3) Role of the family and each of its members; (4) Development of communication patterns for parents and children and (5) Ways of providing children with feelings of positive self-worth; respect and love for all human beings.

We must launch a massive campaign to make the people of urban centers realize the power of the ballot, their responsibility to become registered voters and the necessity of exercising that franchise. We must use the political arena to become more actively involved in the established structures which control the school systems, especially the school boards — the people who make the rules.

We must reach out and organize parents, concerned citizens, business, etc., to create a viable force to dedicate and devote their time and energies in developing and implementing new solutions to the many old problems that permeate the educational establishments of the nation.

We must understand that we are not going to be able to strength our youth to face the challenge of tomorrow unless we continue to work and struggle to make it happen by providing the models and the educational system which provides the skills and the mechanisms needed for a productive life. Complacency is our biggest enemy. Real progress will only come when forward looking organizations such as the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. work together for what we know is right and humane.
