When Chris Edley asked for someone to help the United Negro College Fund to promote its Tennis Extravaganza featuring Arthur Ashe and his friends, Sam Belnavis, Jim Thompson and Eyre Saitch of the Miller Brewing Co. were there to supply the need with a pre-function reception at the Essex House for friends and participants in the extravaganza.

The extravaganza was held in the Felt Forum at Madison Square Garden and featured Arthur Ashe; Heywood Nelson (What's Happening); Fred Williamson (former L.A. Ram, now acting); Walter Cronkite (CBS); Dina Merrill (Movie Star); JaNet DuBois (Good Times); Whitman Mayo (Grady, Sanford & Son) and Tom Gorman.

Among the guests at function were Postmaster John Strachan, Dr. and Mrs. Leslie Alexander, Juanita Van Rensaelier, Norman Powell, Mel Patrick, publisher, Delegate Magazine and Mrs. Eyre Saitch.
