during his 15 year career. He played in the NBA All-Star Game nine times, was voted most Valuable Player in 1971 All-Star Game played in San Diego, and ranks No. 1 in assists and free throws made among Seattle's all-time career leaders. Lenny Wilkens also holds the No. 2 NBA ranking in assists, and the No. 4 spot for games played.

Wilkens was a player-coach for the Seattle Supersonics during the 1969-70 season and a player-coach for the Portland Trail Blazers during the 1974-75 season. He also served as the head coach for the Trail Blazers during the 1975-76 season. His unique coaching ability virtually catapulted the Seattle Supersonics to second place in the 1977-78 season and his outstanding leadership abilities led the Sonics to the NBA title the very next year.

The Ninth Annual Grambling-Morgan State Football Classic, sponsored by the New York Yankees in association with the New York Urban League, benefits the two participating colleges and the New York Urban League's Whitney M. Young Jr. Memorial Scholarship Program.
