one of the most persuasive strategists of the 1960's civil rights struggle and regarded education as the true key to personal freedom for blacks in America. The scholarship fund supports Mr. Young's commitment to closing the gaps between blacks and whites in America.

The 10 student winners, who will receive their $1,000 scholarships prior to the game, were selected from an extensive list of candidates submitted by the five individual borough branch offices. Scholarship incentives were awarded based upon a required written essay, a personal interview, and a superior academic record.

At this time we wish to thank George Steinbrenner and the New York Yankee Foundation for their generous support and supplementary grant to our scholarship fund.

Manhattan -- Daryl Works, Columbia; Renee Davis, Yale University.

Queens -- Olivia Archie, Barnard College; Rodney Perry, St. John's University.
